A Brief Biography

Jeffrey Frank is the author of four novels and the co-author of a translation.

He published The Columnist in 2001, and Bad Publicity in early 2004. Both books are set in mid-to-late Twentieth-Century Washington. Trudy Hopedale, the third part of the Washington Trilogy, came out in July, 2007, from Simon & Schuster. Bookforum describes the books as "dark, hilarious stories of motion (and stasis) on DC's social ladder."

A Danish speaker, he collaborated with his Danish-born wife, Diana Crone Frank, on The Stories of Hans Christian Andersen: A New Translation From the Danish, which has been published in the United States and England. He wrote the foreword to the University of Chicago Press's re-issue of Peter De Vries's The Blood of the Lamb.

An early novel, The Creep, set in the New York of the 1960s, is no longer in print, but it continues to find readers. Last year, Daniel Clowes (Ice Haven) wrote in the Boston Globe that “once I started reading it I couldn't stop. It's the grim, downbeat tale of a lonely creep...It's also hilariously funny…."

Jeffrey Frank, who was born in Baltimore, Md., has held various jobs, including newspaper days at The Washington Star and The Washington Post. He is now a senior editor at The New Yorker. He lives in Manhattan with Diana. They have one son.
